Introduction

Everyday writing can take many forms and occur for many purposes. Despite the fact that everyday writing is a non-academic field, it does not mean that certain aspects of academia can't be applied to view everyday writing. This exhibit's goal is to look at examples of everyday writing through a rhetorical lens, focusing on how each artifact manages to communicate with the intended audience. For the purposes of this exhibit rhetoric here is not defined as persuasion, merely communicating information, more closely aligned with the ideas of rhetoric as discussed by Foss and Griffin in "Beyond Persuasion: A Proposal for an Invitational Rhetoric".

This is a non-exhaustive look at just a few of the different kinds of everyday writing that can be communicative, including examples in the physical and digital realms. Examples are further categorized as being either having a direct or broad audience that they are intended to communicate with.
