"I am so excited I could scream!"

This artifact is an enthusiastic Facebook post announcing composer Temi Omotayo’s new position as the High School program coordinator for Dance Marathon, a yearly fundraiser for local beneficiaries in the Tallahassee area. She chose to include hashtags as a means of identification with a particular group, as shown by the blue phrase “#gailsgals” and even included various acronyms at the end of her post which also act as ways to identify with other groups and their associated activities. DM is the shortened Dance Marathon while FTK means “for the kids,” the phrase used to connect individuals with the philanthropic mission of Dance Marathon. She then tagged another individual named Eva Mustian so that she’d be part of the post and would therefore receive subsequent notifications.

It’s fairly obvious from the positive reactions this post received that Temi has a supportive group of friends on the platform who seem interested in her daily life. Due to that interest, she may have posted this information to inform them of the good news. This artifact clearly shows the social engagement prompted by social media and how both the poster and commenters maintain relations via this form of everyday writing.
