Journal Entries and Doodles

Journal Entry #1: Living Room Drawing

There is an internal, reflective nature to the writing, as well as an attempt at humor. At the end of the entry, the writer is aware that a future version of themselves will be reading this, and includes inside jokes as to their current life. In this writing, the doodle serves to remind the author of their environment while they were creating this entry. This enhances the author’s mental image of how it was like to be within this moment.

Journal Entry #2: Doodle in Diary

This is a diary entry where the author is trying to piece together their personality by the things they enjoy. It begins with a quick breif on their concern with their innermost intentions, and digresses into a list of the things that bring them happiness. A drawing to the side of the writing is a scratchily-made figure of a woman. This doodle accentuates the discovery quality within the work, as the author attempts to get to know who they are.

Journal Entry #3: Jazzy Cat Doodles

This is an example of the creative writing exercise called stream of consciousness. This technique calls upon the writer to jot down anything and  everything that comes to mind. In this writing, the author is reflecting upon the romanticism of loneliness, as well as to how beautiful, yet unfulfilling, a fabricated personality can be. In one line, they compare themselves to a jazzy cat, which is further reinforced with the doodle in the bottom-left corner. In this writing, the doodles add an adjacent illustrative quality to the peice. This is done to give a visual representation of the emotions within the draft.
