Linguistic Text

I texted an old friend tonight because I saw some old meme we used to laugh at and it sort of made my night so I figured why not reach out. Our association is limited to mutually gushing over The National (our similar music tastes have now evolved way too differently to bond over much else beside them) but I still really appreciate having the contact in my phone. It makes me consider the dynamic about friendships and how so many of my closest ones that ultimately ended actually came full circle. We were best friends at one point in time (another life it seems like now) and although that relationship is now just a dumbed-down version of acquaintanceship, I really genuinely appreciate it. Not everyone has to be your best, cross-your-heart-hope-to-die confidante. Not all your friends have to know every last detail about you. Sometimes the people in your life are just there, living as sporadic check ins and glimpses of the past.
