Decoration
Overall, decorations create a space that is personalized and expresses individuality. When considering what "everyday writing" is, I think that Lillis best describes it, and its purpose. These decorations that seem like casual, mundane pieces just bring so much enthusiasm to a blank dorm space. When Lillis states that "writing is not just one thing, but involves many different materials, technologies and practices...and used in different ways for different purposes"(92), it is clear that these mundane decorations truly are a unique form of writing. Even the Broadway Painting artifact is a piece of everday writing, though it may not contain a lot of words. Expression of one's self makes a space comfortable, and thus creates a home; these writings are used in this way to create such a space.
