We’ll start our exploration of tagging and classification systems in the Museum of Everyday Writing itself. This screenshot was taken from the Museum of Everyday Writing’s website, from the “crushing on this one pilam” artifact. Visitors of the museum might not know this, but these are some of the categories, called Dublin Core Metadata, that an artifact is sorted by when it gets posted to the museum website. The person posting the artifact has to make decisions about what goes into each category to most accurately and effectively sort and categorize an artifact. What do you think about the tags that you see here? Do you think they match the artifact? Are there any data categories that you think need to be added or modified to give more effective or relevant information about the artifacts to visitors of the museum?
