Description

This artifact is two short poems written by Glenda Berky. The two humorous poems, written on yellow legal paper, both discuss love and relationships. The submitter gave the following details about the artifacts history: Glenda was full of funny little sayings and loved long, elaborate jokes. She wrote some herself, and copies others from books or conversation. When we went through her things after she died, we found dozens of little scraps of paper with sayings and poems written on them.

Linguistic Text

My husband is a conceited jerk
He thinks he is so grand
His high opinion of himself is more
than I can stand
He thinks he's all my dreams come true
my forever guiding light
And most of all he's <underlined> Right! <underlined>
[line]

When I was <underlined> 16, <underlined> I prayed that God
would give me a guy so tall & lean.
Then when I was <underlined> 18 <underlined> I pray for a <crossed out> gu <crossed out> man
so <underlined> smart <underlined> and <underlined> keen. <underlined>
When I was <underlined> 21 <underlined> I pray for a man who
<crossed out> who <crossed out> who would be lots of <underlined> fun. <underlined>
When I <underlined> 25 <underlined> I prayed for a man
with spunk and jive
When I was <underlined> 30 <underlined> prayed for a man
not only handsome, but a little pretty.
But now that I'm almost <underlined> 45 <underlined>
I just pray to god to please
just give me a man thats
still alive.
