I'll never forget the first time I hear this masterpiece of a song. I'm European and I was roadtrippin down the coast of California, it was my first trip to the States. My friend told me to pull over the car to the side of the road when we came to Big Sur. The sunset over the gorgeous pacific ocean was almost to overwhelming. He put on the track on the stereo of the car, rolled down the windows and we lit a smoke each and let the cool summer breeze hit our faces. We were leaning against the windshield as we sat on the hood of the rental as we gazed into the horizon, just dreaming and letting it all sink in. Being in a state of euphoria and tranquility.
I was totally frozen in the moment and we didn't utter a single word, my youth was the very essence of that moment in time. Eventhough Dreams have a pretty clear meaning (heartbrake, sorrow and so on) I really felt the track in a different way. For me it was about longing, about the departure from adolescence into adulthood. I may be very wrong.
It was only 5 years ago but it feels like an eternity. What a absolute masterpiece of song, and a album for that matter. Here I go rambling on like an old man.
