Three Years in Pixels
Each of these trackers, a basic 12x31 grid with each “pixel” representing a day of the year, is an iteration of a popular mood tracker, commonly known as the “Year in Pixels” system. The first two examples, in fact, bear this name as the title of the page. Notable in the context of everyday writing is the key that explains the mood assigned to each color. In attempting to boil down a wide range of emotions into a limited list of basic data, the author seems to have found themselves in a process of constant refinement. Although many of the colors carry over from year to year and represent similar emotions each time, the exact words paired with them shift.
