Scrapbooks--Or, the Efforts of a Magpie

SB 2019.jpg

These scrapbook examples most notably vary in the amount of writing involved in each one and the type of visual text included. The first artifact, from 2019, involves writing that serves to add color to the page and provide context to the instant photos it displays. The photos all seem to be from a short time span.

The second, from early 2021, is primarily a journal entry, with the bulk of the page being taken up by simple writing and a small doodle. The visual text of the page consists of one instant photograph and a lot of preserved plants. Notably, a small portion of the linguistic text is in Japanese, though this seems to have been done in order to make the page more visually engaging. The text, which translates to “Pink, right?” is not very substantial.

This final artifact, from August 2021, consists of almost no linguistic text composed by the author, but a wealth of text from outside composers, including clippings from a Russian newspaper, a book about rose variations, and a parking ticket. This scrapbook page includes pieces collected over a week travelling across the Southern United States, although few of them are clearly associated with the locations in which they were found.
