Description
"A Thought of Columbus" was Whitman's last poem before his death in March of 1892. Whitman gave a manuscript of this work to his friend Horace Traubel. Within the text, he speaks yearningly of Christopher Columbus for his work in establishing the modern New World, and of concepts such as democracy and the evolution of the world.
