A Concrete Impact on Pedestrians: Cement Writing

Cement writing comes from imprinting characters into wet, but almost dry cement or concrete and the writing or images done will last as long as the cement blocks. Natural writing involving cement comes into play because while cement is not a natural element, it is, generally, located outside. Cement writing is almost engraving and is done by no more than objects like fingers, sticks, or pens (not ink, just a sharp point to create straight lines).

An unknown individual carved the words, "Love More," onto a cement sidewalk in New York. Photographed by Erik McGregor will credits remaining to this individual; posted onto Instagram under the account: @ministererik

"There were several other names/initials paired like this on the slab of cement but I didn't have the time to take pictures of them all! I don't know how long these names have been there nor who wrote it, but it looks like they were carved into the concrete with a stick or some other object."

"Go Vegan," found on a sidewalk outside of the Longmire Building on Convocation Way, located within Florida State University's main campus in Tallahassee, Florida. The writing looks like it was carved out of the cement with a stick or someone's finger.

"Hillary 2016," written outside of Montgomery Hall on Florida State University. The inscription was by a newly placed statue behind the building, and the small pedestal where the description of the statue would normally be had not been completed yet, where the writing was found. It is thought that the inscription was done on election day.
