Barking News: Updates from Our Pets

Many of my friends will use their pet accounts to filter news or create a fun way to make an announcement of big life changes. While a lot of the post are more just cute or funny, they can often show major events like moving, having/preparing for new babies, or getting married. Or big events in the pet’s life, such as a birthday, making a new friend, or some sort of cosmetic change (like a new haircut, or losing a tail (for geckos).

This account used to be called “Denvergoestocollege,” because the friend adopted him at the beginning of her second year of college and she wanted to document college life with a dog. Since she has graduated, she changed the name to “adventuresofdenverthecowdog,” which is especially appropriate given that she moved to Montana to live on a ranch (with mostly horses, but some cows that he attempted to herd). This was the first of their road trip pictures showing their move, others have pictures that show their sleeping quarters in the back and then a few interesting stops before getting to the ranch. Her hashtags reflect the travel (#roadtrip etc).  The picture captures the excitement of the owner to make the move through her dog’s excited face.

This festive occasion shows the birthday celebration for her old cat, and the comments and caption help show both age and the community of friends around the cat (those who were there when the cat was born/adopted). The party hat in the image helps to show the occasion, and the hearts all over it show the love that the owner has for the cat. The emojiis in the comments also help show the enthusiasm and love friends of the owner have for the cat, and many directly address the cat instead of the owner in their well-wishes. The owner doesn’t use hashtags on this post, but clearly there is already a good following based off the number of likes and comments on this post.
