These macrophotography samples come from Jessica "Dixie" Mills Instagram account at @homemadewanderlust, and belong to a collection of posts that share her experience on the Continental Divide Trail. There are a huge scale of perspectives one can have while hiking this trail. From marveling the landscapes to enjoying the creatures seen along the way, there are many ways to appreciate the nature on the path; however, it is very easy to overlook the humbling small plants, animals, and insects.

Mills includes several macro photography-styled posts that focus on the small details on the trail, and these pictures help both her and her audience refresh their perspective and become more aware of the small ways to appreciate the wilderness. Her photos provide close-up shots of the specimen with a high resolution, and the rest of the photo is out of camera focus. This helps the reader become grounded in the small natural wonders along the trail, encouraging them to become self-sufficient in attending to these parts of the wilderness often forgotten about. Providing these unique visuals, which are very different from the rest of her posts, allows the writing to become enhanced in its message about the small appreciations found outdoors. It also provides a framework to include writings about how she has adjusted her attitude throughout her journey and ways to change perspective.
