"Wanted Kitchen Help"
Dublin Core
Title
Description
This artifact is Cat Bellew's hand painted sign asking for help in the kitchen for fifty cents per day. The sign looks as if it is painted on wood that has been distressed. Stenciled letters and numbers are painted in red. A rolling pin and two serving spoon are also painted on the sign.
The submitter provided the following about the artifact’s history:
My mother [the creator of the sign] loves to paint and makes tons of these signs to decorate her house and give to friends as gifts. This one she made when she redecorated her kitchen to look a little more country. Sometimes it sits on top of the stove as it does in the attached picture. In the past, it has hung in various places in the kitchen.

Visual Text
On the left upper corner of the sign, in line with the word "wanted," a brown rolling pin is painted. The pin itself is tan, while the handles are a red-brown. The rolling pin is angled - roughly a 45 degree angle - so that it's left handle is lower than its right handle. On the upper right side of the sign, above the LY from "DAILY," two black utensils are painted. The top utensil is a spoon, the bottom is a fork. The utensils are angles at roughly a 40 degree angle. The handles of the utensils are pointed to the right; the tines of the fork and dip of the spoon are pointed to the left. The letters are painted red, appearing to be stencils with circles at the points and ends of letters.
Placement of Sign
Set on top of the stove, leaning against the wall behind the stove.
