Description
This artifact is calendar for the month of September 2016 made by the submitter's son's school. The submitter provided the following:
"To get a glimpse at how writing organizes my life, this image of a school calendar is probably the best artifact. In almost every box, there is printed a "school event," which we then overlay with work schedules, trips, family events, soccer games, and folks visiting. It looks chaotic, with ink smeared and scratch outs across numerous columns. What is not evident from the notes is the significance of each written in event. "Game" doesn't highlight it was my son's first game on varsity - having made it as a freshman. It doesn't describe the weekend at the beach. Nor does it highlight the thousands of miles driven from Philly to Syracuse - the other meaning to any "Steve teach." In that way, the calendar is more like a synecdoche, indicating only part of what is a very often complex but deeply fulfilling life. "
