So, what's cooking?

spices.jpg

For this exhibit, I have put together six simple Nepalese recipes. I chose easy recipes so that anybody who is willing to make a quick trip to the Asian grocery can prepare it at home. They are not very complicated, and the instructions are clear. You will, however, need a Pressure Cooker and a Rice Cooker if you want to save time.

I asked a friend of mine to help me put together the recipes. There are several different ways to cook the same dish, however, my friend has given her personal touch to each recipe. They were originally written in Nepali. The script is Devanagari. They were later translated into English. I have taken minor liberties during the translation to make the instructions clearer for my English-speaking audience since I am familiar with both languages. I have used English translations of all the food items and ingredients and I have also added little notes in between the parentheses for alternate methods, health benefits, cautions, and other little things.

I hope you enjoy my exhibit and will eventually try a few recipes. There is special focus on the spices mix since they make the Nepalese cuisines maintain their distinct flavor.
